1970 Chevelle Upgrade

We were stoked to get this 1970 Chevelle 4-door into the shop. It’s the perfect cruiser for a full crew, but it was missing one thing: a soundtrack. We set out to add modern tech while keeping that classic dash looking original.

We recently had this beauty in the shop here at Bronson Audio in Tavares to bring its audio capabilities into 2026 without losing its vintage charm. Our goal for this build was simple: Modern performance without ruining the vintage aesthetic.

🛠️ The Build Breakdown

To keep the car looking original while performing like a modern daily driver, we focused on "stealth" upgrades:

  • The Head Unit: We installed a factory-fit stereo. It looks identical to the original 1970 knobs and faceplate in the dash, but it’s packed with Bluetooth connectivity and USB inputs for seamless streaming.

  • The Front Stage: Since we didn't want to cut into the original door panels, we used custom kick panels with provisions for 6.5" speakers. This creates an excellent sound stage right at the listeners' feet.

  • The Rear Deck: To fill the cabin, we integrated 6x9 speakers into the rear deck, providing that deep, full-range sound you need when the windows are down.

  • The Powerhouse: Reliability is key for Lake County cruises. We powered the entire system with the @ddaudioforlife SS4.500. This amplifier is a beast—compact enough to stay hidden, but powerful enough to provide crystal clear output at any volume.
